Chinese Automobile Export Data in May 2025
According to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, in May 2025, China's automobile exports reached 551,000 units, an increase of 6.6% month-on-month and 14.5% year-on-year. By vehicle type, passenger vehicle exports were 468,000 units, up 8.5% month-on-month and 17.7% year-on-year; commercial vehicle exports were 83,000 units, down 2.8% month-on-month and 0.5% year-on-year.
From January to May 2025, China's automobile exports reached 2.49 million units, a year-on-year increase of 7.9%. By vehicle type, passenger vehicle exports were 2.079 million units, up 7.4% year on year; commercial vehicle exports were 411,000 units, up 10.5% year on year.
In May 2025, exports of ICE vehicles reached 339,000 units, up 7% month-on-month but down 11.5% year-on-year. From January to May 2025, exports of ICE vehicles totaled 1.635 million units, representing a year-on-year decline of 8.6%.
In May 2025, new energy vehicle exports reached 212,000 units, up 6.1% month-on-month and 120% year-on-year.
From January to May 2025, new energy vehicle exports totaled 855,000 units, representing a year-on-year growth of 64.6%.
In May 2025, among the top 10 vehicle exporters, Chery's export volume reached 101,000 units, a year-on-year increase of 9%, accounting for 18.3% of the total export volume. Compared with the same period last year, BYD showed the most significant export growth, with 89,000 units exported, a year-on-year increase of 130%.
From January to May 2025, among the top 10 vehicle exporters, Chery's export volume reached 442,000 units, a year-on-year increase of 1.6%, accounting for 17.7% of the total export volume. Compared with the same period last year, BYD showed the most significant export growth, with 382,000 units exported, a year-on-year increase of 110%.
